Parks & I skipped the Clemson vs. Maryland game this past Saturday, October 16th, to attend 2 nights of Phish in Charleston. We left for Charleston on Friday morning (along with Parks' brother William) & after several stops, finally arrived at our hotel around 2pm. Russ (Rachel's brother) & Hunter (aka Wheelz--Russ' good friend) let us pile into their car & we headed for the lot at the N. Charleston Arena. We met up with a bunch of friends & tailgated all afternoon.
Phish was excellent, as usual. They played 28 songs on the first night & jammed on night 2. We heard a lot of favorites & are really excited to see them next week in ATLANTIC CITY for the *Halloween show. (COME ON BRUCE!!!)
*When Phish plays a Halloween show, they play 3 sets. The 1st set is normal Phish music. The 2nd set is an entire album of another band. (There are a lot of speculations about what they might play, but I'm praying for Bruce Springsteen. I don't think they will do it, but it doesn't hurt to dream!) The band plays their own music for the 3rd and final set.*
Things got crazy in the football world this weekend. Clemson beat Maryland- thank goodness! Carolina lost to Kentucky and it wasn't pretty. I seriously thought Russ was going to jump off the balcony of the arena. Russ, William, Wheelz, & I were standing on the balcony following the play-by-play on Russ' phone. William, also a Gamecock, got a text message & things went downhill real fast for Rusty. We finally returned to the concert, where Parks was anxiously awaiting our return, & Phish busted out a pretty fabulous "2001". About 30 seconds before they started, I turned to Wheelz and told him it was about to happen. I was right!
Overall it was a great weekend. It's been tough getting back to the grind this week, but we've survived. We'll be heading to Clemson on Saturday to watch the Tigers play GA Tech. I really hope we can pull off a win. Below is Richard's (my cousin) poem for the week.
It’s once again time
For my Rant of the Week
In which speaking of winning
I rarely do Speak
We’ve usually just lost
To a team far Inferior
And I’ve endured Russ’ Texts
Touting HBC Spurrier
But every Once in a While
I awake with a Smile
And I realize our Coaches
Went Deep through their Files
They must have had Help
With these Top Secret Plays
‘Cause by some Grace of Gawd
We beat Maryland Today
Now I’m not Obnoxious
And I swear I don’t Swear
But we have only six days
To get our Offense Prepared
For a swarming of Jackets
Buzzing near HOWARD’S ROCK
But today I’m a Tiger
Not a Pissed Off ole Cock!
A SPECIAL thanks to Parks' dad & Cecie for taking care of Finley, Wilson, & Wrigley while we were out of town!
